Each to their own: handling complex sharing needs in Figshare

Open research principles and best practices call for all research to be as open as possible or as closed as necessary. Sometimes adhering to that guidance can bring complexity, with different sharing needs for different types of research output.

Two of the main challenges researchers and their institutions face when sharing research are 1) handling large files and 2) appropriately controlling access to restricted files.

By providing researchers ways to overcome these challenges, institutions can help their communities to embrace open research sharing and engage with their repository. Figshare provides tools and features to support both large files and restricted access.

In this webinar we provided an overview of how to work with large files, how to create discoverable records with restricted files and how to grant access to those who need it, managing the complex and individual needs of researchers looking to share their research.
